Grind and shine? Eh, not this girl. While some people just jump up and are ready to go, chomping at the bit to work out. Others do not. They move at the pace of a snail, confused as to why it’s so damn bright. Yeah, that’s me. Squinting and groaning that the day is trying to start.

This girl right here is ALL about Club Bed and jamming to DJ Pillow. It’s one of my favorite hobbies. (Yeah, I know it’s not a hobby.) But I thoroughly enjoy sleep.

Sleep is essential to the fitness process. It allows your body to heal from a brutal day. You need to sleep. (So unfortunate, NOT!) If you don’t get the proper amount of rest, your body will not heal itself and will possibly make your body plateau faster take longer to make it to your ultimate goal.

There’s also a flip side to sleep and that’s too much sleep. Too much sleep causes you to be overly tired and feel like you’re in a fog. Trying to find the healthy balance is sometimes a trial and error experiment. Some people need more sleep than others while some need less.

If you’re trying to find the optimal amount of sleep you need, there are great things on the market. At one point I used a UP24 Jawbone tracker.


I won’t lie, I bought into the hype and was cheap so I bought it off eBay. I wore it for about a month before I decided to resell it. I did like the idea of it but it was a little bit of a pain in the butt to input information into the app and it wasn’t compatible with MyFitnessPal so it wasn’t working for me. Also, the battery died super fast. (That’s probably because it was used, but it should have lasted more than a day.) Another con was having to plug the Jawbone into the phone to transfer the information. (Yup, kicking it old school without wifi.) It did help me see when I slept the best and when I got a certain amount of sleep I felt better.

The other product I tried was the FitBit but not the bracelet. I could not stand how tiny this device was. I had no place to put it and I was constantly worried it would fall off me and always checking for it.  The upside was the device had wifi but it wasn’t worth the hassle to me. I want to try the heart rate monitor from them but again, I’m cheap.


Get the sleep your body needs so you don’t hinder your fitness process. You need to take care of your body properly to always succeed.
