Hey lovlies! It’s Friday! Thank god. This weekend could not come fast enough for me. It is Tortuga weekend and I am excited beyond words. Tortuga is a HUGE music festival that benefits the oceans. This is it’s 3rd year and they improve every year.
It benefits an organization called Rock the Ocean Foundation – funds locally and globally. Many of the projects they help fund are in the Florida and Caribbean waters. The festival is three days on Fort Lauderdale Beach. It is mostly country music and this year there are 34 acts. It is also the first year that it is a 3 day event. Last year was the first year I attended and as soon as tickets were released for this year I JUMPED to buy them. It is a weekend of complete fun, music, sunshine and memories. It starts about 11 in the morning and runs til 11 at night.
Now when you are at an all day festival for 3 days you need to be prepared. In order to make sure that I stay somewhat on plan, I have to plan ahead. It is a typical festival with typical festival food, i.e. fried, sugary, and greasy. I pack a bunch of protein bars that are not going to melt in the heat and protein powders to mix up with some water to make it possible for me to stay on plan. I will pack protein and veggies to leave at the hotel so I have something to snack on. Am I going to indulge a little? Absolutely. The other great thing is there are water stations to be able to refill your bottles.
There are three stages so no matter what I am going to get my cardio in. Walking on the beach is especially hard, which is a great workout for legs.
Here are my suggestions for the festivals and hotel. . .
- water for festival and room
- protein bars
- raw veggies
- cooked ground turkey/chicken/lean beef
- pretzel chips
- to go peanut butter cups
Of course you can leave whatever you want in your room to snack on in the morning or once you get back from the concert at night. The one thing we did find out last year is that not a lot of stuff stays open after the festival and it was REALLY hard to find food without having to drive far. I think this year we MIGHT hit up Primanti Brothers. If you haven’t had Primanti Brothers you are missing out. This Pennsylvania transplant is an amazing place to eat, especially at 2 am.
Book bag with. . .
- Sunscreen – face and body
- tarte Marine Boosting Spray
- 1 liter of water (per day)
- empty bottle/cup
- camera (GoPro are not allowed but I might try)
- extra charger (I have a solar powered one)
- phone cord
- protein bars
- fruit strips/snacks
- trail mix
- extra shorts
- long sleeve shirt
- UV shirt
- light hoodie
and last but definitely not least. . .
- the attitude to have an awesome time and enjoy every moment.
If you ever have the chance to go to a festival like Tortuga, I would jump at the chance. Have a awesome weekend. See y’all Monday!
