Hey y’all! So, story time. Lol. The other day I went to get a facial and my favorite part is the extractions. I know, I’m gross! Lol. Don’t be fooled, that is most people’s favorite part, they just ain’t willing to admit it. I just feel 1,000 times cleaner afterward. Anyway, as the facials is getting all the evil out of my face she comments, “wow, your pores are so small.” In my head I went “Yes! Thank God!”
Now there is something SEVERELY wrong with that thought. First off, as a society we have been conditioned to think that big pores are a bad thing and need to be changed. Look, I am not pointing any fingers because I am just as guilty for buying into the hype. I have the Benefit Porefessional that I love and I use a Bioderma product that is meant to shrink you pores, surprise!
But once I got to thinking about it, I thought it was so sad that here I was having a nice relaxing facial and that was the thought that passed through my mind. That even when I should simply be enjoying the experience, I was still worried about my appearance. No, the irony was not lost on me that I had this thought while having a facial, which is supposed to help my appearance.
I just realized that we live in a society that has trained us to want to be alike and we should celebrate and embrace all of our differences, even if it is big pores.
