Country Saves My Soul

Hey y’all! Happiest of Sundays to you. I am currently traveling to a family birthday party and I’m stuck in the car for the next three hours. YAY! Can you hear to sarcasm? Because there was so much there it is not even funny. Lol. I am grading papers and jamming out to my favorite new artist. I am probably late on the train but that is usually how it is with me and music. I don’t listen to much “real” radio. I am a Pandora girl.

I am a true blue country music fan. I won’t lie I went through a rebellious phase and was all about “I hate country” because it was all my parents listened to. You know how middle schoolers are but as soon as I hit 10th grade I embraced my country soul so much I didn’t give a damn who knew. I went to a predominately African American high school. So, I was the “little white girl” BLASTING her country music out of her jeep with the windows down, not giving a damn who heard it. I mean I had a flipping 12 in my jeep to blast country music. Come on. Lol.

Anyway, I don’t know what station I was listening to when I stumbled onto Dylan Scott. This amazing man’s voice is incredible. Even though he was singing a Justin Beiber song, I was hooked! It doesn’t hurt that he is easy on the eyes as well.

I mean HELLO! Do you see how good looking he is? Yes, I am fan girling hard but who cares! The first song I ever heard from him was a cover of Justin Beiber’s “Love Yourself” and I was in love. Fun fact, that song wasn’t written by Justin Beiber but by Ed Sheehan. Which made me like it a little more. Lol. After that, I searched for a Dylan Scott Pandora station and I have been listening to him ever since. If he ever comes far enough down south I will be racing to that concert. Part of me hopes he will be at Tortuga or Country 5oo this year.

I am currently listening to his music as I blog. A couple months ago I posted this picture on Instagram and tagged his music account in it. I DIED!

Now, do I know that it possibly wasn’t even him but a PR person that liked it? Yes but I don’t care. I fan girled HARD.

Some of his lyrics and this doesn’t do him justice. Download his new album NOW!

Freak Show
Dylan Scott

[Verse 1]
Sophisticated in a black dress
Sipping red wine and looking her best
Meet the folks, she’ll pass that test
Any apprehension
Yeah, she’ll put it to rest

[Verse 2]
She’s a pageant queen
Been that way since she was seventeen
Better looking than the girls on the silver screen
Everyday is like a movie scene
She gives her free time to charity
All my friends think she’s too good for me

[Pre-Chorus]
But when we’re home
And we’re alone
Oh, you’d never know

[Chorus]
It’s a freak show
She’s a wild one
A whole lot of crazy when the sun goes down
A whole different woman comes out
It’s a freak show
Like you wouldn’t believe
Even when she hasn’t had a thing to drink
It’s her style, hide something beneath that smile
Our own little secret, nobody knows
You should see her when the doors close
It’s a freak show

[Verse 3]
She talks politics, art history
How she does it, it’s a mystery
Cause when the girl starts talking to me
It’s enough to drive a man crazy

[Verse 4]
She’s Jekyll, she’s Hyde
She’s day, she’s night
There’s no blurring the lines
She’s one or the other
But whenever we’re together

[Chorus]
It’s a freak show
She’s a wild one
A whole lot of crazy when the sun goes down
A whole different woman comes out
It’s a freak show
Like you wouldn’t believe
Even when she hasn’t had a thing to drink
It’s her style, hide something beneath that smile
Our own little secret, nobody knows
You should see her when the doors close
It’s a freak show

[Pre-Chorus]
But when we’re home
And we’re alone
Oh, you’d never know

[Chorus]
It’s a freak show
She’s a wild one
A whole lot of crazy when the sun goes down
A whole different woman comes out
It’s a freak show
Like you wouldn’t believe
Even when she hasn’t had a thing to drink
It’s her style, hide something beneath that smile
Our own little secret, nobody knows
You should see her when the doors close
It’s a freak show

Listen to “My Girl” here and I PROMISE you will not be disappointed. His lyrics and the beats are a match made in heaven.

Have an amazing Sunday. I know I will listening to Dylan Scott and grading papers.
