Protein Power

Hey y’all! We have made it to day four of this challenge. I am not going to get too hopeful with the success of this challenge but I will say I am cautiously optimistic. Lol. Today we are going to talk about one of my other favorite protein bars. I LOVE the PowerCrunch protein bars, especially the chocolate mint flavor.

There are TONS of protein bars on the market and they are really hard to choose between. Sometimes they taste like absolute garbage and sometimes they are too sweet. The unfortunate part is that you have to try them in order to see if you like them. So when I find one that I REALLY like, I buy a bunch of them.

These bars taste somewhat like a KitKat bar and an Andes mint mixed together. They are wafer based on the inside. It is not a dense as a KitKat but it is a wafer cookie. It is so hard to describe. Then there is a chocolate mint mousse in between the wafers that is creamy and like biting into little clouds of delicious air. They are then coated in soft chocolate.

Lets get into the nitty gritty. No protein bar is truly healthy and this bar is no exception.

When it comes to protein bars, the calories are pretty standard. But the calories lie. Sarah Bowmar posted a video on her YouTube (Bowmar Fitness) about how to truly figure out calories. The way you figure out the calories and macros is by a simple equation.

Protein is 4 calories per gram

Carbs are 4 calories per gram

Fat is 9 calories per gram

If you look at the bar above claims that it has 205 calories for the whole bar. Lets test the formula.

Protein – 13 X 4 = 52

Carbs – 10 X 4 = 40

Fat – 13 X 9 =117

52 + 40 + 117 = 209

So this bar is actually pretty close to their claims. This would be one of the better bars to reach for instead of something else unhealthy.

Don’t get me wrong, protein bars are still processed food but they are the better choice than stopping at a fast food joint. You of course can’t eat them in excess. They need to fit into your macros and make sure that you are still eating them with proper proportions.

Let me know if there are any other bars y’all recommend. Have a good day.
